Birth Certificate FAQs

Find answers about Dominican birth record searches, official certificates, apostilles, international delivery and payments.

1. How do I start a birth record search?

Complete the request form with the information you have about the birth and select the applicable search fee based on the year of the record.

Records from 1970 onwards: US$29.
Records from 1950 to 1969: US$49.
Records from 1949 or earlier: US$95.

Once payment has been received, our team will begin searching for and verifying the birth record. If additional information is required, we will contact you during the process.

2. Does the search fee include access to the digital record?

The search fee covers the birth record search and verification service.

If the record is located, we will notify you by email. You will be able to review the information found before deciding whether to obtain the official certificate.

The search result does not replace an official birth certificate issued by the Central Electoral Board (JCE).

3. Do I need to make another payment once the record is found?

No. The search fee is paid only once. The amount depends on the age of the record:

  • 1970 onwards: US$29.
  • 1950 to 1969: US$49.
  • 1949 or earlier: US$95.

Once the record has been located and verified, you can decide whether to request the official birth certificate. The certificate is a separate service with its own fee.

4. What will I receive when my birth record is found?

You will receive an email notification containing the information located during the search, allowing you to review the record details.

You can then request the official birth certificate, with or without an apostille, depending on your needs.

5. What happens if my birth record cannot be found?

If we are unable to locate the record, we will inform you of the search results.

Depending on the information available, we may request additional details or recommend alternative approaches to the investigation.

The fee covers the search and verification service and does not guarantee that the record will be located.

6. How much does an official birth certificate cost?

Once the birth record has been located and verified, we can arrange the official certificate issued by the Central Electoral Board (JCE).

  • Official Birth Certificate: US$66.
  • Official Birth Certificate with Apostille: US$86.

Both options include standard international delivery.

7. Do I need to pay US$66 and then US$86 if I require an apostille?

No. These are two separate options.

You can request the official birth certificate for US$66, or the official certificate with an apostille for US$86.

You do not need to pay both certificate fees. The record search fee is charged separately.

8. What is the difference between the search result and the official certificate?

The search result allows you to review information located in the Dominican Civil Registry, including names, dates and other available details.

The official birth certificate is issued by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and is used for legal, immigration, citizenship and other procedures requiring official documentation.

9. Do I need an apostille for my birth certificate?

This depends on the country, institution and purpose for which you intend to use the document.

If a foreign institution requires an apostilled birth certificate, we can arrange both the official certificate and its apostille.

We recommend confirming the requirements directly with the institution where you intend to submit the document.

10. Is standard international delivery included?

Yes. Standard international delivery is included in the price of the official certificate, whether or not an apostille is required.

The estimated standard delivery time is 2 to 5 weeks.

We also offer express international delivery for an additional US$139.

Estimated express delivery times are 2 to 3 business days for the United States and Canada, and 4 to 6 business days for Europe.

11. How long does a birth record search take?

Most searches receive an initial update within 2 to 5 business days.

Historical records, searches requiring additional investigation and requests involving limited information may take longer.

This timeframe refers to an initial update, not necessarily the final location of the record.

12. Do I need to know the certificate number, registry book or folio number?

No. We can search using full names, approximate dates, place of birth and parents' names.

If you have the certificate number, registry book, folio number, identification number or any additional information, providing it may help us locate the record more efficiently.

13. What information do I need to start a birth record search?

We recommend providing as much information as possible, particularly:

  • The person's full name.
  • Date of birth or approximate date.
  • Municipality or province of birth.
  • Parents' names.

You do not need to have every detail to submit a request.

14. Is finding the birth record guaranteed?

No. Some records may contain errors, name variations, incomplete information or may not be available in the location initially indicated.

Our team will conduct the search using the information provided and may request additional details when necessary.

15. What happens if there is an error in the birth record?

If we identify an inconsistency, we will inform you before proceeding with the official certificate.

If the case requires a formal correction procedure, we will explain the available options and associated costs before proceeding.

16. Can I request someone else's birth record?

Yes. We can search Dominican civil records provided sufficient information is available to identify the requested record correctly.

The issuance of certain documents may be subject to additional requirements imposed by the relevant authorities.

17. What payment methods do you accept?

Payments are securely processed through Stripe.

We accept major credit and debit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay where available.

Dominican Vital Records does not directly store your card details.

18. What is your refund policy?

If we have not provided an update on your request within 20 business days, you may request a refund directly from our team.

Refunds are normally processed within 48 to 72 business hours.

19. Do you offer certified translations?

Yes. We offer certified translation services for US$95 for immigration, legal and administrative purposes.

This service can be requested in addition to the official birth certificate.

20. How will I receive updates about my request?

Updates will be sent to the email address provided when submitting your request.

We may also use WhatsApp or SMS for notifications regarding your request if you have authorised these communication methods.

21. Why is the process divided into two stages?

Our process is divided into two stages so you can verify the record information before paying for the official birth certificate.

Stage 1: Search and Verification. The fee depends on the age of the record: US$29, US$49 or US$95.

Stage 2: Official Certificate. Once the record has been located and verified, you can request the official certificate for US$66 or the apostilled certificate for US$86.

This means you do not need to pay for the official certificate before we have confirmed that the corresponding record has been located.
